එන්නත් වලදී භාවිතය 1800 දී Edward Jenner විසින් smallpox සඳහා නිපදවන ලද ප්‍රථම එන්නත cowpox නමින් හැඳින්වුන zoonotic bovine virus ආසාදනය හා බැඳී ඇත. Jenner ගේ නිරීක්ෂණයකට අනුව smallpox රෝගය milkmaids ලා හට නොසෑදෙයි. එයට හේතුව වන්නේ ඔවුන් හට හරකුන් ගෙන් රෝගයේ සෞම්‍ය ආකාරයක් වැළඳෙන අතර ඒ මගින් මානව රෝගයට ප්‍රතිශක්තිය ගොඩනැගෙයි. ජෙනර් විසින් cowpox රෝගය භාවිතා කොට මිනිසුන් smallpox සඳහා ප්‍රතිශක්තිය ගොඩනගන ලදී. එහි ප්‍රතිඵලයක් ලෙස වසූරිය මෙලොවින් තුරන් කිරීමට හැකිවිය. එසේම 1981 දී වසූරියට එරෙහිව එන්නත් කිරීම නවතා දමන ලදී.
